It has recently been recognized that pathological protein coagulation is responsible for lethal pathologies as diverse as amyloidosis, Alzheimer and TSE. Understanding the coagulation mechanisms is therefore stirring great interest. In previous studies we have shown that on profoundly different systems coagulation is the result of a strong interaction between two processes on different length scales (mesoscopic and microscopic). Augmented reality has been used in many fields, but it has not been used to treat psychological disorders. Augmented reality presents several advantages respect to: the traditional treatment of psychological disorders and virtual reality treatments. In this paper we present the first augmented reality system for the treatment of phobia to cockroaches. Our system has been developed using ARToolkit software. It has been tested with one patient and the results have been very satisfactory. Texture analysis and optical anisotropy measurements of leukocytes for early diagnostics of diabetes mellitus

DNA damage had been suggested to contribute to the pathogenesis of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). In this work we present a method for detection and discrimination of such DNA changes by means of analysis of light microscope images of anisotropically stained leukocytes nuclei. Several features of the images have been evaluated, including integrated optical density, degree of polarisation, and textural features. A genetic algorithm, coupled with a neural classifier, has been used to find the best features for identification of the pathology. Reported results indicate the best set is able to achieve an 83% correct classification ratio.
